Commercial Floor Care in Reno-Tahoe and Western Nevada

Washoe, Storey, Carson City, Douglas and Lyon - the Truckee Meadows, the capital, the Carson Valley, Lake Tahoe and the industrial corridor east of Sparks.

Western Nevada is where winter genuinely changes the maintenance plan, and it is the only part of the state where that is true across the whole region.

What the region covers

The region takes in Washoe County and the Truckee Meadows, Storey County and its industrial park, Carson City, Douglas County with the Carson Valley and the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe's south shore, and Lyon County from Fernley through Dayton to the Mason Valley.

Carson City is worth a note of its own. It is a consolidated municipality - both an incorporated place and a county-equivalent - so there is no Carson City County and no separate county government. One page on this site covers both roles.

Winter, and what it does to finish

Snow, freeze-thaw cycles and the traction sand and deicing chemistry spread on roads and lots all end up inside the building on footwear. Deicer is the harder of the two: it leaves a white salt bloom, holds moisture against the floor and abrades as it is walked in. Entrance zones across this region generally need a shorter interval from November through March than for the rest of the year, and running a single interval year-round is a common and costly mistake here.

Lake Tahoe is the extreme case. Snowmelt leaves standing moisture at entrances while lodging occupancy is at its annual peak, which is a slip risk as well as a finish problem. The warm months bring high-desert dust, playa dust on windy days and wildfire ash in some late summers.

Seasons, shifts and shoulder weeks

Offices, medical buildings and retail in Reno, Sparks, Carson City and the Carson Valley give ordinary evening and weekend access. Distribution and manufacturing property along the I-80 corridor works to shift patterns and is usually better served by a planned weekend or shutdown.

Lake Tahoe property is scheduled by season rather than by week. The workable windows are the shoulder periods either side of the winter and summer peaks, they are short, and every property in the basin is competing for the same weeks.

Unheated warehouse and shop space is the other seasonal constraint: coatings need a minimum surface temperature to cure, so that work belongs in the warmer half of the year. Scrubbing continues regardless.
