Southern Nevada holds the great majority of the state's commercial floor area, and almost all of the property that operates twenty-four hours a day.

What the region covers

This region is Clark County: the Las Vegas valley, the resort corridor, Henderson and North Las Vegas, Boulder City, Mesquite in the northeast corner, Laughlin on the Colorado River, and the Moapa and Virgin valleys.

A large part of the valley's commercial property sits in unincorporated communities rather than in cities. Paradise, Enterprise, Spring Valley, Sunrise Manor, Whitney, Winchester and Summerlin South are Census-designated places with no city government of their own, and several are more populous than any Nevada city outside Las Vegas. Knowing which jurisdiction a building sits in matters for access and permitting long before it matters for the floor.

Mojave conditions

Fine desert dust is the constant. It is abrasive, it arrives at every entrance on footwear and on wheels, and it flattens gloss along the traffic lines well before the rest of a floor shows anything. Entrance matting long enough to take several strides removes a surprising proportion of it.

Air is dry for most of the year, which can shorten the drying window between coats and often makes phased overnight refinishing realistic in buildings that could not manage it in a humid climate. Temperature, ventilation and the condition of the building affect timing too. The late-summer monsoon weeks are the exception. Snow and deicing are not southern Nevada considerations at valley elevations, though they genuinely are at Mount Charleston in the Spring Mountains.

Property that never closes

Resort floors, gaming floors, twenty-four-hour retail and hospital circulation cannot be handed over empty. Those are worked in phases: a section barriered, taken out of service, refinished, dried and returned before the next begins.

Offices, schools, clinics and professional buildings give ordinary evening and weekend windows. Distribution property at the north end of the valley works to shift patterns rather than opening hours, which usually means a planned weekend or shutdown.
